Porter, Michael Jr. Missouri   6'10" 215 SF frosh Michael Porter Jr. was the number one ranked player in his class in 2017. He was injured (back) in his first game at Missouri. Porter had back surgery, a microdiscectomy of the L3-L4 spinal discs. He sat out the entire season with the exception of the two final games where he played at less than 100%. …Porter Jr. was the MVP of the McDonald's All-America game in 2017. He was the leading scorer for USA Basketball in their win at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit. ...Porter Jr. is unique due to his combination of size and scoring ability. He can shoot over the top of most SF's and he is too quick for most PF's. ...In high school, Porter's team went 29-0. He was coached by former NBA star Brandon Roy. ...In the minutes we are using (as a small sample size), it is clear that Porter is not much into sharing the ball. If you combine his Missouri numbers with the Hoop Summit and McDonald's AA game, he had one assist in 97 minutes. Clearly, he is looking to get himself off. ...There has been chatter about Porter being a poor teammate. We don't see how that is fair given that the kid must have been affected by not being able to play for most of the season. That said, there is evidence of a "me-first" approach by Porter Jr. On his Twitter account, he follows no one. ...Porter is likely to be selected among the first seven picks.
