MVP, Rookie of the Year, All-NBA, All-Star rankings

November 30, 2017. ...The NBA regular season is as much as 28% old (for at least one team that has played 23 games). Many teams are at least at the quarter-pole. We enjoy tracking who is on pace to earn the NBA's most prestigious honors. To do this, we use a very simple formula that multiplies the number of minutes played by the player's EFR (HoopObsession.com's per-minute efficiency rating). The results lend insight to who is 'getting it done' at an efficient rate, while also measuring total production to date.

Let's start with MVP. The current Hoop Obsession standings are:

  1. LeBron James 674
  2. James Harden 622
  3. Anthony Davis 613
  4. DeMarcus Cousins 589
  5. Giannis Antetokounmpo 568

Rookie of the Year...

  1. Ben Simmons 441
  2. Jayson Tatum 343
  3. Kyle Kuzma 319
  4. John Collins 305
  5. Lauri Markkanen 297

All NBA: (highest ranked player at each position)

First Team: James Harden 622, Giannis Antetokounmpo 568, LeBron James 674, Anthony Davis 613, DeMarcus Cousins 589.

Second Team: Stephen Curry 511, Damian Lillard 499, Ben Simmons 441, Karl-Anthony Towns 553, Andre Drummond 496

Third Team: Russell Westbrook 471, Kyrie Irving 444, Kevin Durant 432, LaMarcus Aldridge 480, Nikola Jokic 485.

All-Star Teams

East: Kyrie Irving 444, Giannis Antetokounmpo 568, Ben Simmons 441, LeBron James 674, Andre Drummond 496, Kemba Walker 397, Victor Oladipo 420, Aaron Gordon 396, Kevin Love 429, Joel Embiid 432, Kristaps Porzingis 425, Kyle Lowry 393.

Analysis: Others in the East to keep an eye on: John Wall (smart money is on Wall being in the All-Star game. He is currently out with an injury and his season-to-date total production is down), DeMar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, Al Horford, and Nikola Vucevic.

West: Stephen Curry 511, James Harden 622, Kevin Durant 432, Anthony Davis 613, DeMarcus Cousins 589, Russell Westbrook 471, Damian Lillard 499, T.J. Warren 389, Karl Anthony Towns 553, Nikola Jokic 485, LaMarcus Aldridge 480, Klay Thompson 388.

Analysis: Paul George and Draymond Green are likely to be All-Stars, and we are certain that T.J. Warren, although off to a great start, will not be rewarded as an All-Star by the coaches. Devin Booker, Rudy Gobert, DeAndre Jordan, Marc Gasol, and Carmelo Anthony could all still be in the mix.
