Boum, Souley

Boum is a speedy, small point guard that can create space with his quickness and ball-handling ability. He blows by defenders. He is an accurate shooter that has to be respected. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 2022-23 at Xavier. He shot 40.4% from three-point range and 87.1% at the line. He was named First Team All Big East. Right-handed but uses his left hand well. He gets to the foul line often. He posted a 2.25-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Defensively, despite being tough and willing, Boum is always going to be challenged. He is simply smaller than most. His DEFRTG was 3.1 points worse than the Xavier team DEFRTG. Boum is well-traveled. He started his NCAA career in 2017 at San Francisco. He played one season in the Bay Area then sat out the 2018-19 season. He spent three years at UTEP before closing out his career at Xavier. Boum is 24 years old already and that will probably keep him from being drafted. However, we have no doubt that he can play in the NBA. We view him as a potential top-tier reserve point guard.

Our best advice: in 2009, the 5th pick was Ricky Rubio. We advised, "draft Stephen Curry."
