Castaneda averaged 21.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2.9 assists in 2022-23. He is an accurate shooter that nailed 39% of three-balls, and 86.2% of his free throws. He had a 1.34-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Castaneda's DEFRTG was a troublesome 3.6 points worse than his team's DEFRTG. Defensive inefficiency aside, his offense was so good that he still led the MAC in boxscore plus/minus. He played three seasons at South Florida before finishing up his college career with two seasons at Akron. Castaneda, almost certainly, will not be drafted. We view him as good enough on offense to compete in the NBA, however the defensive challenges that come with being a small guard in the NBA will likely always be there. He's also much more of a two guard than a point guard.
