Champagnie, Julian  St. John's 6'8" 212 SF jr.

Champagnie averaged 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1.1 blocked shots as a junior for St. John's. He was First Team All Big East the last two seasons. He is a respectable shooter (81.5% FT (career), 34.8% 3-pt.) and he really made strides in his decision making and willingness to share. After two seasons with more turnovers than assists, Champagnie had a 1.36-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. He moves well without the ball. ...Champagnie can score in a variety of ways. He led the Big East in total points scored in 2021-22. ...Big East Most Improved Player for 2020-21 when he also led the Big East in scoring, and free throw percentage. Right handed. Wingspan is 6'10". Max vert was 34.5". …He has the ability to bully smaller defenders in the post. ...Despite being an average athlete (by NBA standards), Champagnie was a "plus defender" in college. He finished 16th in the Big East in Boxscore Plus/Minus in 2021-22. He toned up his body (7% body fat at NBA Combine) compared to last year.  We believe with better teammates, his game will shine. Julian Champagnie represents a real opportunity for a team to get a guy that really knows how to play in the second round. Scoring wings that play defense should be coveted. And Champagnie also brings a feel for TEAM basketball that many NBA vets possess.

Our best advice: in 2012, the 28th pick was Perry Jones III. We advised, "draft Draymond Green."
