Daniels, Dyson  G-League Ignite 6'8" 195 LPS 3/17/03

Daniels is an Australian guard-wing-forward with on-court presence that belies his youth. He plays like a seasoned veteran. Daniels averaged 11 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2 steals per game for the G-League Ignite. His three-point shooting is suspect at this point. He made just 27.3% in 2021-22, and his free throw percentage was awful as well (52.5% FT). His shot did look better as the season wore on. ...Daniels had a 1.66-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio in the G-League. We've seen some suggest he is a Point Guard. We just don't see enough creative ability off the dribble to carry that label in the NBA. However, because he is so sharp we do think he can play multiple positions.  ...Daniels was pretty average as a finisher near the basket (49th percentile, according to Synergy Sports). ...Defensively, Daniels stood out. He can conceivably guard positions one through four. He competes. He takes the game seriously. He moves his feet well and seems to use his advanced mental abilities to read plays before they happen. His anticipation is top-notch. He has a 6'10.5" wingspan.  ...I love Daniels demeanor and versatility, but I have a hard time seeing him as the fifth, sixth or seventh best prospect in this Draft. He isn't aggressive enough looking for his own scoring, he has a hard time as a creator with the ball, and the shooting just isn't there (yet). I'd feel much more comfortable selecting him a little later.

Our best advice: in 2015, the 19th pick was Jerian Grant. We advised, "draft Bobby Portis."
