Newton is a low percentage three-point shooter (32.7% career) that averaged 15.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in 2023-24. He ran the point for the two-time National Champions and was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.  His assist-to-turnover ratio was 2.53-to-1. He does a good job of getting to the foul line, a trait we really appreciate. He has an array of shot fakes, and hesitation moves in his arsenal. He is a below average runner/jumper by NBA standards but his reaction time and quickness is good. He played more minutes than anyone in the Big East and he finished fifth in Big East boxscore plus/minus. One negative; Newton's DEFRTG was 1.7 points worse than the U-Conn team DEFRTG. That stated, Newton is willing to take a charge. Newton is right handed with a 6'7" wingspan. We do not think Newton will be drafted. We believe he should be. His shot is not broken. He is a career 83.1% free throw shooter. If he can improve his shooting and shot selection from three-point range, we could see him being a low-tier starter in the NBA. (see video)

Our best advice: in 2023, the 48th pick was Jordan Miller. We advised, "draft Trayce Jackson-Davis."
