Richards is a rim-running BIG that improved his stock greatly in 2019-20. He averaged 14 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocked shots per game as a junior at Kentucky. He was named First Team All-SEC, and he made the SEC All-Defensive team. ...Kentucky was only slightly better defensively (.2 points per 100 possessions) with Richards on the floor. He finished 7th in SEC boxscore plus/minus. ...He doesn't shoot the three-ball at all (zero attempts in three seasons) but he does have a nice face-up shot with range to about 17'. He raised his free throw percentage to 75% in 2019-20 so there is some touch to work with. He has a dependable right-handed half hook shot he goes to. ...Although he plays at NBA speed, Richards "feel" for team offense leaves much to be desired. He had SEVEN turnovers for every ONE assist. (Yikes!). We do not expect Richards to be drafted. We could envision him being an NBA backup BIG if everything falls right for him.
Good advice... In 2018, the 2nd pick was Marvin Bagley. We advised, "draft Luka Doncic."
