Smith, Dennis  N.C. State 6'2" 190 PG frosh. Smith was the ACC Freshman of the Year for 2016-17. He is an explosive guard with the potential to take over a game. He averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. His assist-to-turnover ratio was 1.82-to-1 (on the low side for a PG, excellent for a SG). ...Smith was the only player in ACC conference history to register two triple-doubles in the same season. He also scored at least 30 points in an ACC-best four games. On January 23, 2017 Smith scored 32 points and dished six assists in a 84-82 victory against the Duke Blue Devils leading NC State to its first win in Cameron Indoor Stadium since 1995. Smith posted a DEFRTG that was better than the NC State team DEFRTG. The last time his wingspan was measured it was just 6'3" in 2014 (same as Tyus Jones, and Darren Collison).  ...In high school he won a North Carolina state championship as a sophomore. The following season he was the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina. However, prior to his high school Senior season he tore his ACL. He missed that entire season. ...Smith is obviously a talented, explosive prospect. We would caution however, that we saw a huge amount of variance in his performances this season. There were times when he looked like he was mailing it in. Other times, when engaged, he took over. We expect him to be among the first ten players selected.

Good advice: Good advice: In 2013, the 8th pick in the NBA Draft was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. We advised, "Draft C.J. McCullom."
