Smith, Jabari  Auburn  6'10" 220 PF frosh.

Smith is a skilled perimeter scorer. His high release is hard to guard. Smith averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1 blocked shot per game as a freshman. He shot a very nice 42% from three point range and 79.9% from the foul line. He was named First Team All-SEC. Smith had slightly more assists (68) than turnovers (63). ...Smith was a plus defender with a DEFRTG 2.2 points better than the Auburn team DEFRTG. He is especially adept at snaring defensive rebounds to close out a possession. He finished fourth in SEC boxscore plus/minus. ...Rt. Handed. Smith is an alert player. He is also excitable bordering on immature at times (he received a T for talking smack to the Syracuse bench in a game I watched). He is excellent as a catch and shoot jump shot maker. He can also use a couple dribbles to create his jumper. If you REALLY watch him around the basket, he can be pretty average. Aside from a few highlight reel dunks, he often struggles to finish near the hoop. His 1.1 points per shot near the rim in half-court situations was in the 48th percentile according to Synergy Sports. ...It is too bad that so many have compared Smith to Kevin Durant. Smith is a really nice player but he is not anywhere close to being the scorer that KD was as a college freshman. Nor is Smith the shot-blocker or defensive presence that Durant was. I would say Smith is a better passer, and decision maker at the same stage. But in my opinion, KD as a freshman was on a different tier. ...Jabari is the son of Jabari Smith who played for the Sacramento Kings. Like his father, I believe Jabari prefers the perimeter game offensively. I do think Smith will be an excellent NBA player and a starter for many years even if he is not as decorated as some may think he will be.

Our best advice: in 2018, the 2nd pick was Marvin Bagley. We advised, "draft Luka Doncic."
