Thompson is a quick-twitch athlete that can handle the ball well at 6'6". Right-handed, and 20 years old, he can create his own shot off penetration. He goes to the hole with determination and he can finish with either hand well. Amen had a 2.13-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (according to Overtime Elite's stats). His size gives him the ability to see over smaller guards. He averaged 16.4 points (56.6% FG), 5.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists. On the downside, Amen is an inconsistent shooter. He made just 25% of his three-balls in 2022-23, and he was equally below average from the foul line at 65.6% FT. Defensively, Amen has the tools to be excellent. He has a 7'0" wingspan. Thompson's best trait is his elite level athleticism. He has great speed, and a quick first step. We believe Amen Thompson will be taken among the top-five players. His lack of shooting accuracy is a real concern. We always say a low-percentage shooter better be special otherwise. We think Amen is special enough with his combo of vision, and athletic gifts, but he will almost HAVE to be paired with an accurate deep shooting BIG to sniff consistent winning in the NBA.
