Walter, Ja'Kobe

Baylor

6'4"

SG

Walter is a right-handed shooting guard with good size and athleticism for the position. He has a 6'10" wingspan on a strong frame. Although, he completed his freshman season, he is older for his class and he will be 20 when NBA Training Camps begin. Walter averaged 14.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He shot 34.1% 3-pt. FG, and 79.2% FT. Walter was not very efficient in 2023-24. He had slightly more assists than turnovers (50 assists, 47 turnovers). He did do a good job of getting to the foul line (2nd in the Big-12 in FTA's). Despite the tools to be a good defender, his DEFRTG was 2.9 points worse than the Baylor team DEFRTG. He is willing to take a charge. Walter was a McDonald's All-American in 2023. We expect Walter to be taken in the middle of the first round. His athletic profile is tantalizing but his efficiency is poor. The NBA landscape is CROWDED at the two-guard spot. Walter has potential. We hear he is a mature kid. Whoever selects him should be willing to give him plenty of time to develop. (see video)

Our best advice: in 2003, the 39th pick was Slavko Vranes. We advised, "draft Kyle Korver."
