Watkins, Jamir

Watkins has good size and speed for a NBA shooting guard. He's 6'5' with a 6'10.75" wingspan. Watkins was very efficient in 2023-24 on a mediocre-to-bad Florida State team that didn't generate much buzz. The right-hander averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He shot 34.4% 3-pt FG, and 79.5% FT. Watkins had slightly more assists than turnovers and his feel for the offensive game could be better. He does a great job of drawing fouls. Watkins was second in the ACC in free throw attempts. Watkins DEFRTG was 4.1 points better than the Florida St. team DEFRTG. He finished fifth in the ACC in boxscore plus/minus. Watkins started his NCAA career at VCU (two seasons) before heading to Florida State where he played just one year. ...We doubt Watkins will be drafted. He will be 23 years-old when the next NBA season begins. We think he absolutely should be drafted and we would not be surprised to see him ultimately be a mid-tier starter in the NBA. See video

Our best advice: in 2017, the 40th pick was Dwayne Bacon. We advised, "draft Thomas Bryant."
