Nick Boyd is a left-handed point guard that can unquestionably run a team offensively right now. Boyd averaged 20.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game this season at Wisconsin while carrying heavy usage. He shot 36.5% from three-point range and 83.0% from the free throw line. His 2.52-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio reflects a player with real command of an offense. At 6'1" with just a 6'2.5" wingspan and a 176-pound frame, Boyd is undersized by NBA point guard standards. Man, we wish he had done better in the genetics lottery. With that lack of length, he will likely always be challenged defensively if he reaches the NBA. The numbers back up that concern, as Boyd posted a poor DDiff of minus-3.7. He does have great speed, tying for the third-fastest three-quarter court sprint time at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine. He also posted a 36" max vertical. Boyd is already 25 years old. He began his college career at Florida Atlantic in 2020-21, had a redshirt year, then played two more seasons at FAU. In 2024-25, he was at San Diego State before finishing this season as Wisconsin’s main man. He led the Big Ten in total points scored, and not surprisingly, he seemed to thrive in the biggest games of the season. That is what you would expect from a player who was 24 years old all season and had already been through a lot of college basketball. The offensive feel, speed, shooting, experience, and point guard instincts are all real. Boyd can organize a team, make good decisions, and score when needed. The question is whether his lack of length and age cap the NBA projection. Even so, Boyd’s ability to run an offense right now should earn him a serious look as a guard who could compete for backup point guard minutes.

Our best advice: in 2016, Kay Felder was drafted 54th. We advised, "draft Gary Payton II."
