Maliq Brown is a right-handed forward and multi-faceted defender whose value is tied much more to impact than scoring volume. Brown averaged only 4.9 points per game, but added 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 steals while helping Duke with constant defensive activity. He takes charges, hustles, gets deflections, digs down for tie-ups, and consistently finds ways to disrupt possessions. At 6'8" with a 7'0.75" wingspan and a 216-pound frame, Brown has useful defensive size and excellent mobility. He was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and his DDiff was a whopping plus 8.3. Brown also led the ACC in total steals in 2025-26 and finished second in ACC box score plus/minus. He tied for the third-fastest three-quarter court sprint time at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine and posted a 34" max vertical. Offensively, Brown is very limited on the perimeter. He is a LPS, having shot just 26.2% from three-point range for his career, and he made only 59% of his career free throws. However, he is excellent finishing around the basket. On two-point field goals, Brown made 73.8% for his career, which ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history. He also posted a 1.51-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Brown played his first two seasons at Syracuse before finishing with two seasons at Duke. He may never become a reliable floor spacer, but his defensive ability, motor, and “want-to” are truly elite. Brown is trustworthy, productive in the margins, and capable of impacting winning without needing shots. That gives him a real NBA pathway as a defense-first forward if a team can live with the shooting limitations.

Our best advice: in 2021, RaiQuan Gray was drafted 59th. We advised, "draft Austin Reaves."
