Alex Karaban is a right-handed forward that processes the game like a point guard. He really knows how to play. Karaban averaged 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists during the 2025-26 season while shooting 37.4% from three-point range and 85.1% from the free throw line. He also averaged 1.0 blocked shots per game for his career. At 6'7" with a 6'11" wingspan and a 225-pound frame, Karaban has NBA positional size as a small forward. He did a redshirt year as a freshman, then played four seasons at Connecticut. He was dependable, led the Big East in minutes played, and finished fifth in Big East box score plus/minus. Karaban is also UConn’s all-time leader in wins with 126. Karaban’s feel is the best part of his game. His 2.18-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio reflects a player who thinks the game quickly and makes good decisions. He is especially good at feeding the post with passes thrown from proper angles that land in the right spot. His mental approach, spacing, passing, and dependability should all translate. The concerns are athleticism and defense. Karaban jumped a 33" max vertical at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine and is a below-average NBA athlete from a running and jumping standpoint. Defensively, we worry some. His DDiff was minus 3.6, which is a significant negative. He will turn 24 early in the 2026-27 NBA season, so the upside is not as open-ended as it is with younger prospects. We love Karaban’s mental approach to the game, but the limited athleticism and inability to create separation lead us to view him as a low-tier reserve in the NBA. While we foresee him being selected early in round two, we would pass and take a shot at a younger prospect.

Our best advice: in 2016, Joel Bolomboy was drafted 52nd. We advised, "draft Gary Payton II."
