Hannes Steinbach is a right-handed German power forward/center with good hands, excellent rebounding instincts, and a strong finishing profile near the rim. Steinbach averaged 18.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocked shots per game. His 11.8 rebounds per game led the entire NCAA. At 6'10" with a 7'2.25" wingspan and a 248-pound frame, Steinbach has legitimate NBA frontcourt size. He gobbles rebounds at a high rate and finishes very well around the basket. He set the Big Ten conference record for double-doubles by a freshman with 22 and earned all-conference recognition. Defensively, Steinbach’s DDiff was plus 3.4, showing positive impact on that end. His hands measured well at the 2026 NBA Draft Combine, tying for the ninth-biggest hand width at 10". Steinbach is not a great overall runner by NBA standards. He posted a 35.5" max vertical and can move his feet well in short stints, but his three-quarter court speed was below average. He does attempt some threes, though it is not a huge part of his game at just 1.8 attempts per game. In our database, Steinbach is a 32.1% three-point shooter, placing him in the LPS pool. He did shoot 75.9% from the free throw line, which offers some hope that the touch can keep developing. The decision-making will need to improve. Steinbach had more turnovers than assists. Perhaps in the NBA, with better teammates and a more defined role, he will develop more trust in sharing the ball. Prior to Washington, Steinbach led Germany to the silver medal at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland, earning a spot on the tournament All-Star team. He also helped Germany capture gold at the 2024 FIBA EuroBasket. With his youth, rebounding, hands, finishing, size, and international experience, Steinbach is an intriguing NBA frontcourt prospect. The shooting and passing feel are still developing, but bigs who rebound, finish, compete, and already produce at his age deserve serious attention.

Our best advice: in 2018, Kevin Knox was drafted 9th. We advised, "draft Mikal Bridges."
